Fossalta di Piave is a modern residential centre, with all facilities equipped, as well as with elegant shops and comfortable houses, although it keeps at the same time some witnesses of the past: Tolotti-Silvestri, Canthus (ex Marini) and Rossetto Villas, just to cite some examples, which miraculously escaped the destruction of the First World War.
But in the common mind the memories of those last months of the Big War are still vivid. This is the reason why in 1979 was placed on the Piave river bank a memorial tablet for H. Hemingway. This can also be considered as the 'foundation stone' for the future Baptistery, erected in 1983, as wished by the 'Italian Boys of '99', by the municipality of Fossalta di Piave, as well as by all people, who generously contributed towards its realization.

the Baptistery

This baptistery has its roots in the past, yet is first of all a peace and brotherhood warning to all peoples, but particularly to the future generations, that's why it is periodically a pilgrimage destination for people coming from all over Italy. Furthermore its anniversary is celebrated every year in the 'Day of Peace', each time with different interesting events, drawing the attention and participation of civil, religious and military authorities and of the 'Boys of '99'.

In order to enhance also the big area on the Piave river bank - a property of Fossalta di Piave municipality, of about 30.000 sqm - this was transformed in the River Park.
Fossalta's community is very lively, always involved in sport, cultural and recreation activities, as there are about thirty different Voluntary Associations operating in the area.
Every year there are furthermore interesting events, which have now become a tradition, as for instance the 'Day of Peace', Fossalta's Carnival', Fossalta's Summer', the 'Cycle Race Gold Medal Ottavio Bottecchia', 'August Festival' and so on

Fossalta di Piave was as well enhanced from an environmental point of view through the creation at the end of the seventies of the park in front of the town hall, with the advice of the famous naturalist botanist Henry Cooker. In different areas of the town were also created public parks and gardens with flowerbeds and trees.
