After the Blue Flag, Cavallino-Treporti has recently received another important European acknowledgement: the 'Royal Awards for Sustainability 2007', issued by the European Environment Agency to the European holiday resorts most receptive to environmentally sustainable tourism. In all about one hundred resorts took place in the competition: Cavallino-Treporti was not only placed in Europe's top 15, it was also the only resort along the Venetian Coast to be given the award. The prize therefore acknowledges the development of a breed of tourism that is compatible with the environment and that has the prestige of being promoted by two of Europe's sovereign families: that of Prince Frederick of Denmark and Prince Philip of Spain. The award ceremony was held in Scotland in april, during the international conference on sustainable tourism. A jury of experts nominated the resorts that distinguished themselves for their work and commitment in relation to the sustainable tourism industry. The winner was Fiskars Village in Finland, second place went to Pielach Valley in Austria and third place to Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. The other twelve resorts, including Cavallino-Treporti, were acknowledged as joint winners. In the Jury's opinion, all these places showed how a sustainable tourism approach can help to prevent the negative effects of tourism and exalt the positive ones.
