To the lagoon of Caorle, Ernest Hemingway, Nobel prize winner for literature in 1954, dedicated some of the most beautiful pages in his book 'Across the River and into the Trees'. Born at Oak Park in Illinois on 21st July 1899, son of Clarence Edmonds Hemingway and Grace Hall, he arrived in San Gaetano, Caorle, for the first time in 1948, as guest of Baron Raimondo Nanuk Franchetti with whom he shared the passion for hunting and a profound friendship. He stayed in the master house at S.Gaetano when accompanied by his wife Mary, and in the hunting lodge 'Valgrande' when alone. There are still old people that remember this great man arriving with his big car and caressing the heads of the children.
